What is this FAQ for?
This FAQ explains how presets work, how to add browser sounds, and what to check before you publish to the Sound Mod catalog.
What is a preset?
A preset is a collection of custom sounds you can map to supported browser events-tabs, clicks, notifications, and more. One preset can include multiple sounds, categories, tags, and a playback mode.
What is Sound Mod used for?
Sound Mod is a Chrome extension that lets you personalize browser sounds for everyday actions so browsing feels more expressive and intentional.
Do I have to publish a preset right away?
No. At any step you can click Save draft and come back to your preset later.
Can I create multiple presets?
Yes. Create separate presets for different moods, themes, events, or workflows-each lives on its own in your catalog.
What goes in Basics?
On the Basics step, add:
- a preset cover image;
- a preset name;
- a short description;
- a full description.
What image should I use for the cover?
Use a sharp square image that matches the vibe of your preset.
Recommended size: 600×600 px.
Supported formats: PNG, JPG, or WEBP.
What is the maximum preset name length?
Preset names can be up to 60 characters.
Why do I need a short description?
The short description gives listeners a fast snapshot of what your preset is about.
Limit: 120 characters.
What should I write in the full description?
In the full description, explain the style, mood, intent, and what sounds or events are covered.
Example:
A futuristic Sound Mod preset with sci‑fi accents for navigation clicks and desktop notifications.
Limit: 1000 characters.
How do I add a sound?
Go to the Sounds step and click Add sound.
A new row appears where you can add:
- a sound label;
- an event;
- an audio file.
What is an event?
An event is the browser action that triggers playback-for example opening a tab, clicking UI chrome, or receiving a notification.
Can I add multiple sounds?
Yes. You can attach several sounds to a single preset.
Can I delete a sound?
Yes. Use the delete icon on the sound row to remove it from the preset.
Can I preview a sound before publishing?
Yes. Use the play button on the sound row, or audition everything later on the Preview step.
What does “Total duration” mean?
Total duration sums the length of every audio clip attached to your preset.
Why pick categories?
Categories help people browsing presets understand the genre at a glance.

Can I select more than one category?
Yes. Choose every category that honestly reflects your preset-you can mix and match.
Why use tags?
Tags improve discovery inside the Sound Mod preset catalog.
How do I add a tag?
Type a tag in the tag field and press Enter.

How many tags can I add?
You can add up to 15 tags.
Why is there a Preview step?
Use Preview to hear how your preset behaves before it goes live in the catalog.
Which playback modes are available?
There are three playback modes:
- SequentialSounds play back-to-back in list order.
- RandomSounds shuffle each cycle.
- LoopThe preset repeats continuously.
Can I adjust volume?
Yes. Use the volume slider inside the Listening panel.
Should I test before publishing?
Definitely. Listening catches clipped audio, mismatched levels, or missing events before listeners hear them.
What happens on the Publishing step?
Publishing shows a concise recap before your preset ships.
You can review:
- Name
- Sounds
- Categories
- Tags
Can I go back before publishing?
Yes. Tap Back to revisit earlier steps and tweak anything.
What should I verify before clicking Publish?
Double-check that:
- the title is clear;
- descriptions are filled in;
- every sound uploaded correctly;
- each sound has an event;
- categories reflect the preset;
- tags stay relevant;
- you already listened on Preview.
What does the Publish button do?
Publish submits your preset to the public Sound Mod catalog.
Can I save instead of publishing?
Yes. Choose Save draft whenever you need more time.
I cannot advance to the next step-what should I check?
Make sure every required field is complete. Required inputs are marked with an asterisk (*).
My sound row disappeared-what now?
Try adding the clip again and confirm the file picker actually selected an audio asset.
Publishing shows no preset name-why?
The name field may be empty. Return to Basics and enter a descriptive title.
Nothing plays in Listening-what should I verify?
Confirm that:
- each row includes an audio file;
- every sound is mapped to an event;
- the preview volume is not muted;
- uploads finished without errors.
I am not ready to publish-what should I do?
Hit Save draft and revisit the preset whenever you are ready.
How do I craft a standout preset?
Use descriptive naming, polished audio, and categories that match how people search.
What makes a preset easier to discover?
Preset discovery improves when you include:
- a memorable title;
- a helpful short description;
- accurate categories;
- specific, meaningful tags.
Should I cram in tons of tags?
Stick to tags people would actually search for-noise hurts clarity more than it helps rankings.
What should I avoid?
Avoid:
- cryptic titles;
- blank descriptions;
- misleading categories;
- corrupted or silent audio;
- publishing without listening first.
Fastest path to publish a preset?
- Open Create preset.
- Fill out Basics.
- Click Add sound.
- Add a label, pick an event, and upload audio.
- Select categories and tags.
- Preview the preset.
- Click Publish.
Can I pause and resume later?
Yes-choose Save draft whenever you need to step away.
