This Privacy Policy applies only to the Custom Sound for Browser browser extension on the Chrome Web Store (extension ID fncnfeciobjpchdafgggloopjpmigboc). It is the primary Sound Mod install path referenced across sound-mod.com. It does not replace the general website policy at /privacy.

1. Who operates this extension

Custom Sound for Browser is the main Sound Mod Chrome extension. It plays custom sound effects for browser actions-tabs, navigation, clicks, notifications, downloads, and related events-using ready-made presets from the Sound Mod catalog or settings you configure locally.

For privacy questions, use the Contact page and mention "Custom Sound for Browser" and extension ID fncnfeciobjpchdafgggloopjpmigboc.

2. Summary

  • Browsing history is not uploaded. Tab and navigation signals are processed on your device to trigger sounds. We do not receive a log of pages you visit through the extension.
  • Presets and preferences stay local by default. Active presets, volumes, mute state, and cached audio metadata are stored in Chrome extension storage until you uninstall or clear extension data.
  • Catalog requests are optional. When you browse, preview, or install presets from Sound Mod, standard technical logs may be created on our servers as described in the website privacy policy.
  • No sale of personal data. Personal information is not sold to third parties through this extension.

3. Permissions and why they are used

Permissions shown in Chrome and on the store listing are authoritative. Summary:

  • storage - save presets, per-action volumes, and extension preferences locally.
  • tabs - detect tab events so tab-related sounds can play on your device.
  • offscreen - play audio in the background without keeping an extra visible page open.
  • Host access (content scripts) - listen for UI events on pages you visit when you enable those sounds. Page content is not uploaded to us for storage.

4. Data on your device

Depending on how you use the extension, the following may be stored or processed locally:

  • Preset definitions and references to sound files (including cached audio where applicable).
  • Per-action volume, mute state, and enabled/disabled events.
  • Popup and options-page preferences.
  • Short-lived tab or UI signals used only to play the matching sound-not retained as a browsing history log on our servers.

Remove this data by uninstalling the extension or clearing storage in chrome://extensions → Custom Sound for Browser → Details → Clear data.

5. Data sent to Sound Mod servers

The extension may contact sound-mod.com when you:

  • Browse or search the public preset catalog from the extension or linked website flows.
  • Download or apply a preset pack from the catalog.
  • Sign in on the website and explicitly link the extension to your account (optional).

Those requests can include IP address, browser user agent, and request metadata in server logs. See the website Privacy Policy for retention and legal bases. We do not build a personal browsing profile from extension tab events.

6. Store privacy disclosure

The Chrome Web Store listing states that the developer does not collect or use your data outside the extension's core functionality. This policy describes local processing and optional catalog traffic in more detail. If the store privacy card and this page differ on extension behavior, the store listing controls the install-time disclosure; this URL is a stable reference for reviewers and users.

7. Account linking

Signing in on sound-mod.com and connecting the extension is optional. Account-related data is transmitted only after you choose to connect-not silently in the background.

8. Children

The extension is not directed at children under 16 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through the extension.

9. Security, retention, and your rights

Local data is isolated by Chrome's extension platform. HTTPS is used for network requests where supported. Server log retention follows the website policy. You may have rights to access or delete personal data we hold on servers-contact us via the Contact page.

10. Changes

We may update this policy when the extension or store disclosures change. The current version is at /privacy/custom-sound-for-browser.
