Custom Sound Mod
How the Custom Sound Mod extension handles information on your device, when it contacts Sound Mod, and what you can control.

Last updated: May 2026
This Privacy Policy applies only to the Custom Sound Mod browser extension distributed on the Chrome Web Store (extension ID fjboepmonjneabhpckmfgpojhchlegna). It does not replace the general Sound Mod website policy at /privacy, which covers the sound-mod.com website and related web services.
1. Who operates this extension
Custom Sound Mod is part of the Sound Mod product family. The extension lets you play custom sound effects for everyday browser actions (such as tabs, clicks, and notifications) using presets from the Sound Mod catalog or audio you configure locally.
For privacy questions about this extension, use the Contact page and mention "Custom Sound Mod" and extension ID fjboepmonjneabhpckmfgpojhchlegna so we can route your request.
2. Summary
- Browsing history is not uploaded. Tab and navigation events are used on your device to decide when to play sounds. We do not receive a copy of your browsing history through the extension.
- Presets and settings stay local by default. Active presets, volumes, mute state, and cached definitions are stored in Chrome extension storage until you uninstall the extension or clear its data.
- Catalog requests are optional. The extension may contact Sound Mod servers when you browse or install presets from the catalog. Those requests follow the same technical logging described in the website privacy policy.
- No sale of personal data. We do not sell personal information collected through this extension.
3. Permissions and why they are used
The extension requests Chrome permissions needed to play UI sounds and save your choices. The published listing and in-browser permission prompts are authoritative; the following is a plain-language summary:
- storage - save presets, preferences, and cached audio metadata locally in your browser.
- tabs - detect tab open, close, and switch events so the correct sound can play. Processing occurs on your device.
- offscreen - play audio reliably in the background without keeping a visible page open.
- Host access (content scripts) - inject a lightweight script on pages you visit so click, keyboard, scroll, and related UI events can trigger sounds when you enable those actions. The script does not send page content or full URLs to us for storage.
4. Data processed on your device
Depending on how you use the extension, the following may be stored or processed locally:
- Selected preset definitions and sound file references (including cached audio where applicable).
- Per-action volume levels, mute state, and enabled/disabled events.
- Extension UI preferences shown in the popup or options page.
- Ephemeral tab/navigation signals (for example, that a tab was opened or activated) used only to trigger sounds-not retained as a browsing history log on our servers.
You can remove this data by uninstalling the extension or clearing its storage in chrome://extensions → Custom Sound Mod → Details → Clear data.
5. Data sent to Sound Mod servers
The extension may contact sound-mod.com (or configured API hosts) when you:
- Browse or search the public preset catalog from within the extension flow.
- Download or apply a preset pack from the catalog.
- Sign in on the website and explicitly link the extension to your account (optional).
Those requests can generate standard server logs (IP address, user agent, request time, and requested paths) as described in the website Privacy Policy. We use that information to operate, secure, and improve the Service-not to build a personal browsing profile from extension tab events.
6. Account linking
Account features are optional. If you sign in on sound-mod.com and connect the extension, account-related requests (for example, syncing presets you manage online) are sent only after you take that action. We do not pull account data silently in the background.
7. Children
The extension is not directed at children under 16 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through the extension.
8. Security and retention
Data stored locally is protected by Chrome's extension sandbox. Network traffic to Sound Mod uses HTTPS where supported. We retain server-side logs only for the limited periods described in the website privacy policy.
9. Your choices and rights
You can disable sounds in the extension popup, remove presets, clear extension storage, or uninstall the extension at any time. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, delete, or object to certain processing of personal data held on our servers-submit requests via the Contact page.
10. Changes
We may update this policy when the extension or store disclosures change. The "Last updated" date above will be revised for material updates. The current version is always available at /privacy/custom-sound-mod.
If the Chrome Web Store listing describes data practices differently for the extension, the store listing prevails for the extension install flow; this page is provided as a stable, human-readable reference URL for the store submission.
